Golden Kiwi

The golden kiwi fruit was developed in Te Puke, a small town in northern New Zealand. This variety of kiwi is yellow fleshed and has a much thinner skin than the green kiwi. The golden kiwi got the nickname “Chinese Gooseberries” around 1960, due to the resemblance people felt they had to gooseberries. Green and gold kiwis provide about the same amount of energy—a 1-cup serving of either contains about 110 calories, according to the USDA. While both supply roughly the same amounts of protein, fat and carbohydrates, gold kiwifruit is slightly higher in sugar.
